To implement the concept “Bahn 2000”, the SBB procured twenty-four Re 460 locomotives. A bit later, they had seventy-five more locomotives built to ensure a smooth operation, on the in 1994 introduced piggyback corridor running through Switzerland. The locomotives were later assigned to the passenger transport. Until today they are indispensable when it comes to the traction of the dense Swiss regular traffic.
